Intoxication and Prayer

"God says, 'Don't come near prayer when you are intoxicated until you understand what you say'. Some say that intoxication means a great anxiety. Some say that it means attachment to the world. There are many worshippers who do not drink wine but they do not know what they say in prayer..."

If your sleepy, so sleepy you know you won;t be aware of what you're saying.. does that count as intoxication? Have we been given any guidance regarding that?

Thanks for the comment. It's encouraging. May Allah reward you.

In response to your question, not sure exactly but the chapter of 'Moderation in Worship' (Chapter 14) in Riyadh-Us-Saliheen makes for good (relevant) reading.

In particular, the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said, "When one of you feels drowsy during prayer, let him lie down till drowsiness goes away from him, because when one of you performs prayers while feeling sleepy, he does not know whether he seeks forgiveness or abuses himself."

In the commentary of another Hadith: "Besides moderation in worship, this Hadith enjoins that such times should be fixed for worship when one is fresh so that one feels pleasure in performing it. But this principle is for optional and voluntary prayers only. Obligatory Salat are to be performed at the prescribed times only."

And Allah knows best.
