Evening of Musical Inspiration

I was pleased to see a modified version of the Evening of Inspiration advert on Islam Channel today. Whilst the musical aspect may be debatable, I could not find any justification for the promotion of Muslim women screaming in idolisation of singing men. I would be interested to know whether this new advert was released with those concerns in mind.

I caught a glimpse of the London show on Islam Channel. They (Islamic Relief) seemed to be raising a lot of money. But the question still comes to mind, does the end justify the means? Or, more primarily, is there anything wrong with the means?

I don't know about the questions you raise but the quality of the show was (very) dissappointing.

Disappointing? In what sense?

How were the "Nasheeds"? Were they well-written? Was there more focus on lyrical structure and Islamic teaching than on the (background) musical beat?

I was having a conversation about this just the other day as a similar concert took place quite recently.

Its an interesting discussion. I do agree with you, Muslim women (and men) screaming is rather worrying. They dont only scream but there is sometimes dancing aswell(!)

I raised similar concerns of yours to one of the head organisers and asked opinions from some asaateedth. I learnt that the goals behind such events are many, an important one is a case of providing an alternative platform for entertainment. tbc.....iA.

Dancing? Bizarre! What are they dancing to? Praise upon the Prophet (SAWS)? Perish the thought!

Alternative platform for entertainment? Maybe. Personally I find music distracting. It messes with my head. I uncharacteristically start daydreaming and thinking strange unusual thoughts. Surely this phenomena is not exceptional to me?

As in the overall organisation was disappointing. Alot of hot air. Alot of comments from people on stage about 'how great it is' as if by saying it, it will somehow magically become great without them actually planning for it to be so. I also don't like the way they fundraise so publicly, I think they need to make their point about where the money is going and let people quietly give what they want. They might raise a bit less but at least there should be more barakah, insha Allah. I know I should have said this to them directly but with evaluations given out so early in the evening, did they expect it to be representative of the evening?

If the jobs worth doing, and I think it is, they need to do the job properly. Or maybe its a sign that this isn't my kind of 'inspiration'?

lol, seems like they ticked you off.

From what I understand, giving openly in such settings is recommended since it encourages others to give more than they otherwise would. Each person alone knows his/her intention.
