Book Review: Our Story: Animals in the Quran, by Ahmad Bahjat

This was an enjoyable read. The author – Ahmad Bahjat – has done an excellent job of retelling the stories of the Prophets through the first-person voice of an animal or object who is otherwise a supporting character in the original story. For example: the camel of Salih, the staff of Musa and the clay that Eesa shaped into a living bird.

The stories in the book expand on the Quranic narratives. Bahjat employs artistic license to add imaginative details that give life and personality to each story's narrator. The little details in the stories make it clear that Bahjat spent time learning about the animals and their behaviours, and this care makes the stories all the more engaging.

Get this book if you enjoy the stories of the Prophets and fancy reading them from a new angle—one that weaves in the Ayahs of the Quran and adds fictitious details whilst staying true to the original message.
