Book Review: Our Story: Animals in the Quran, by Ahmad Bahjat

This was an enjoyable read. The author – Ahmad Bahjat – has done an excellent job of retelling the stories of the Prophets through the first-person voice of an animal or object who is otherwise a supporting character in the original story. For example: the camel of Salih, the staff of Musa and the clay that Eesa shaped into a living bird.

Bahjat exercises artistic license to expand on the Quranic narratives, adding imaginative details that give life and personality to each story's narrator. It's clear from the writing that he spent considerable time learning about the animals and their behaviours, and this care makes their stories all the more engaging.

Get this book if you enjoy the stories of the Prophets and fancy reading them from a new angle—one that stays true to, and thoughtfully weaves in, the Ayahs of the Quran.
